Yes, this is the HoloLens versions of the Windows 10 May 2021 Update that is currently rolling out. While the base Windows update is rather limited in terms of new features, Windows Holographic 21H1 comes loaded with additions. Leading the way is Microsoft Edge, the “new” Chromium version, which is coming to HoloLens 2 for the first time. It has been a long time coming considering HoloLens got Chromium Edge in preview back in January. This new Edge version is now the default browser on HoloLens headsets. Since the launch of Windows 10 version 2004 in May last year, Edge started automatic rollout through Windows Update. Previously, the browser was only on manual update since its January 2020 launch. One of the big benefits of Chromium Edge on HoloLens 2 is the ability to install progressive web apps (PWAs) on the headset.
New Settings
Microsoft is also introducing new Settings app controls to give users more management on Windows Holographic. Users now have more granular controls for Power & Sleep, Network & Internet, Sound, Accounts, Apps, Ease of Access, and other settings. Windows Holographic 21H1 adds a Power menu to the Start Menu of Windows 10. Users can access the new menu via the profile icon. Here options include shutting down the headset, sing out, and restart the HoloLens 2. If you’re interested in this latest update on HoloLens 2, head to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update Select > Check for updates. Tip of the day: Thanks to the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) you can run complete Linux distributions within Windows 10. In our tutorial, we show you how to install Ubuntu or other Linux packages and how to activate the bash shell.
